This one was semi informal‚ but they
discussed club business and some RFing
occured too.

Also‚ for 2nd time in 40 years‚ the
8810 triode tube ( size of a water
melon) was lit ‚ to remind it ‚ that
its too be back in service soon.

this time around‚ and I didn't go. And
since I will be helping out at the
Durham Hamfest again this year‚ I
won't be able to go to Hosstraders
this fall.

each evening.

local noises here to me‚ make for
non-hearing of signals below about S-9
at times.... but I still keep watch
for Glenn‚ Dreis‚ Bob and Chet(PLP)
as best I can.

There are NON daily (nitly) QSOs
occuring...but ya gotta tune aroiund a
lot...and they run QRP a lot.

As for to carry out a semi private
QSO‚ 10 seems to be quite the band to
use.

Spasmodic DX occasionally does occur
too‚ as I've heard non USA and far
reaches USA places coming in and out.
Summer is coming‚ and along with it‚
what ever amount of DX the solar cycle
can carry ( which will be 'low' due to
cycle being 'poor' for next several
yaers)

SO.... as a substitute for the
supposedly 'best-to-use-for-local'
2-mtrs‚  10 seems to beat all.

28390 still carries the Ed Net‚ as
well as the auxillary one on 28444

Wallingford has a schedualled net on
28275 CW ( mondays) and 28375 SSB
(Tuedays) .....7 or 8 pm I think...
( I don't use that one...as I use the
'390 one)

Down along C.T.  shore‚ I think on
28385 (?) is a group on Long Island
and on 28425 is a seldom used one in
Milford.

On 28305 is a dual-use freq...
'305 alive' by N1HUV and his cronies
and some odd bunch of New Haven who I
think some  are bootlegging up from
cb. ( 1992 info)
The '305 alive' net tho‚ are all OK
guys‚ but are not on a lot.(1992info)

Another net is on 28333 out towards
Guilford‚ and a West Haven group used
to be on 28325 (1992-3 info)

Bridgeport had/has some kind of group
(no info‚ 1992 info)on 28450

All these are local-work nets or
non-directed nets de la local....
qso's are 'aimed' at others in same
town usually...and anyone able to hear
and reply back from elsewhere.

Almost all uise Vert polarization and
Car units are in on it as well.

When Hal gets his T+ ticket‚ I think
we'll form a mini net ...will have to
look for a freq suited for it‚ not too
near the 28375 bunch.

28400 is used a lot to attempt DX
calls and tune ups..so that one is not
a good one to pick....but 305 is dead
up this way‚ so‚ it being seldom used
by the others (see above)‚ maybe thats
a suitable freq....else 28301 (my
choice‚ sence not many realize its
100% valid to be SSB there and not be
'over the edge' ....as we use
UPPER side band.... thus no hang over
past the edge problems)

So far‚ powers in the 2 to 8 watt
range are enough to do the job...so
fancy gear is not needed....even a
converted cb-ssb will suffice.

continue as we palnned before‚ in case
he gets time to pop in.

and watched TV‚ this week end.....then
got on 40 mtrs a we bit.

I'm back to 10 againntho.

Lots to tell‚ but too hot today to get

To excape qrm from dx‚ one of the
back-up freqs will be 28300.5 for ssb
sence its X rare anyone trys to run a
qso there.
Its 500cps up off the band edge for
ssb use‚ and as we run Usb‚ we won't
be in violatin with FCC rules.

If yer calibrator is 20 cps off‚ it
still will be good enuff to tell if
500cps uphill from the edge.

So...thqts why we'd use that frq‚ as
odd as it is.

28390 and 28444 ‚ however will still
be uised‚ and in that order.

7110 for now‚ is suspended due to
overwhelming work going on here‚
making stuff.

8pm local time VOA comes on the air on
7110kc....I stayed on today to see
when qrm began as Its no longer on in
early after noon.

Also heard a bootlegger‚ who used 3
different callsigns as if his own.

(so what else is new‚ now that ANYone
can get on the air?)

Ed net was on breifly tonite and I
hear activity on '390 '444 as I type
this.

I've begun the '24A' Receiver ... a 2
tube oldy‚ similar to '6J7' but is on
a wood board ... de la typical of
Ham-early Radio.

I'll probably have it on 40 mtrs‚ to
'go with' the transmitter in early
post.

Yes‚ you heard me!!! his WIFE is now
on OUR SIDE‚ and has DEMANDED that he
GET OFF THE AIR‚ and MAKE PEACE!!!!!

More will be made known‚ as the story
develops! At this point‚ it looks VERY
promising‚ and NO MORE FAKERY! This
time‚ it is for real.

That may well be why QRM is down. He
has been 100% radio SILENT for quite a
while‚ now!

the 71A that is....got a guy in Ohio
and almost got some one in texas
toiday as well.

So itrs not the rig......but the ant
is far from correct for REAL 40 mtr
use....so later‚ will sting up a full
size dipole.....(maybe even temporary
for now at my current QTH...move it
downstairs when I move there)

For the time being there'll be no more
of those‚ as all attention will be on
catching the hit-noise from Jupitor
this JULY 16--23rd.

This JULY ( 16--23) a comet‚ in 12
pieces is gonna hit Jupitor on it's
back-side (where we can't see the
ACTUAL strike when it happens... but
will later see (feel?) the
after-effects tho).

This hit is suppose to create radio
waves (noise...a hiss-noise) that will
cover AT LEAST 8-39 mhz.

Due to Earth's D layer‚ we may not
hear the stuff below 12-25 mc‚ but
WILL hear the stuff in the 16-39mc
range.

So...to 'cover all bases' a simple
antenna (plans are uploaded in this
BBS) will be set up X soon at My QTH
to permit listening from 8-31 mc.

Ant will be a folded dipole that we
can short out parts of it to hit
higher freqs rapidly.

At the site of N1OKM‚ N1KGY finally
got a contact ( to 3 region) using his
12HG7 (12BY7) 1 watt rig‚ using a 63
ft wire end fed via a dangle-wire
tuner of 6 turns wire on tolet paper
tubing and a 180 pf tune cap....
...on 7110kc this morning

Ant wire is strung outback into the
woods‚ clear of branches.
Ground is to cold water pipe.

It took 'KGY about 140 trys
before...using cq as well as pounce
tricks...he got this one.

(Thus got yet one more Happy Birthday
present!)

Very breifly this is the better way to
do it‚ especially if yer CW is poor on
receiving

Don't call CQ...wait til someone ELSE
calls CQ and you call him abck as
reply
      you improve chance he'll not
ignor you by 15000%  that way

Use a full size antenna that is
naturally resonant....a 1/2 wave
dipole or end fed ant is the MINIMUM
size to try use.

Dont go nuts trying to get all his
info‚ as all ya REALLY need is JUST
his call sign....everything else will
come in the QSL card.
  So..if yer cw stinks‚ you can wing
it and no loss occurs.

if the other guy is gibving you 10+
on meter and noise is like S-7 or
less‚ and its fairly clear he is doing
more than 1 watt‚ then he will hear
you.....especially if you call him by
his cal sign‚ at a speed equal to his.

A lot of guys are now very picky with
whom they will qso‚ so ya got all that
against you as well‚ besides being qrp

& input is =< 10 watts (DC)

QRPp is under a watt output and is
also known as 'milliwatters'

go to find a qrp'er more often than
anywhwere else on dial) are:

3710   7110   21110 28110   cw

There are more but are not Novice
Tech+   freqs

QRPers are also on many other freqs as
well due to the rise in SSB forign QRM
thats been coming in....so expect to
hera a qrper calling you on most any
freq you are finishing up a qso o9n!

(neevr dial out immediatly....wait and
see if you get called by a milliwatter
or micro-watter!)
