The C*Base NITTY GRITTY: These posts were saved to the system in "chunks" of five. (This saved some space on the drives of the BBS.) I have divided each "chunk" with a line showing the "post numbers" for the following "chunk". Within the C*Base software, there was code to embed "header" information into a graphically pleasing layout, which is nearly impossible for me to reproduce. Therefore, the information is simply presented in it's "raw" format, as follows: ------------------ dividing ----- line ---------------- "SUBJECT" (USER NUMBER) (USER's NAME/Nickname) (DATE the post was made) ("Location" of the user) (TIME the post was made) (TEXT of the user's post.......) .... .... ------------------ dividing ----- line ---------------- (followed by next post) Now, on with the messages. At the bottm is a LINK to take you to the next "sub-board". There are a total of 15.

Hehe 1 Willie... 5/13/94 Running The Ship 8:58 am Yes‚ as Rich said‚ I am FORCED off the air. SIGH! <:( I miss all my friends there. Oh well. Good news on that Wallyworld RPT! Hal‚ why do you dislike the COURTESY TONE? I think it is very useful... The only RPT that I DON'T like the tone on is the 146.925. Talk about a "Roger-Beep"! Man‚ that thing will go right THROUGH you!!! >>>BEEEEP!!!<<< I like the "bubble" on the 147.225.. Sort of like "Boo-dl-doop!" Well... 11 __"——Halgren——_"_ 5/16/94 >-o--------- 8:06 am Our repeater association doesn't like them‚ since many of the people in the association thought that we don't need it. It helps us keep our minds on what the repeater is doing and such. Courtesy tones are nice‚ but there are only a few different types of them‚ and everybody else has one. We like to be different. Anyways‚ the repeater has been fully fixed now. we had trouble with bad grounds on the tower‚ and those have been fixed as well. And we now use a new PL on the output. The PL is now 162.2 or something like that. The input PL will be that too‚ if we have to implment it as well. ------ 555-559 -----ehhh I see7 WyreBall 5/16/94 NCC 1701 A Boiler room 6:34 pm 162.2 ...Is that the final number‚ or did they re-change it to agree with the other stuff? And I take it‚ the guys use that to keep their rigs silent-for-sure which ever freq‚ Ham or that other one... they are on? Soiunds a bit hinky to me‚ to be SO set up to SEND there (the 'other freq')... when in actual practice‚ one does not DO so.... too many liecences at risk‚ if youy ask me! woo! Glad I got rid of MY 2M set up! 10 mtrs 7 WyreBall 5/18/94 NCC 1701 A Boiler room 11:09 am Yesterday and very much today so far‚ a lot of DX is there. I notice too‚ a lotta new 'Hams' who run rigs that sound awful...like they ahd Cb 'linears'...and those sets with the ten-four beeps. This vacation I am on‚ on 10‚ may soon come to a halt‚ and I'll be back on 40-80 again! ======= N1QLF test. We attempted CW but even there signals are too weak to get a copy. N1JJT joined us and di a short QSO with me‚ and he claims its his 1st CW attempt!!! (not 100% so....as 3 years ago he tried CW with me‚ but he maybe forgot it) I'll be at W1ORS today and so will watch on 28.200‚ 28.390‚ 28.444 ‚ starting around 7-9pm (or earlier if I can get to radio table) As I'll be at the club‚ I'll ise the Club's call: W1ORS ‚ as per their rules . I tho‚ am KA1UNW. oops! 7 WyreBall 5/18/94 NCC 1701 A Boiler room 8:27 pm Change in plans...I WON'T be a t 'ORS tonite. So‚ will try do the call from here. RADIO APARTHIED 7 WyreBall 5/21/94 NCC 1701 A Boiler room 2:18 pm A sort of play on words‚ but is fairly accurate it what it means. A lot of Hams in self-defence against all the tranplanted cb'ers who've gotten on quite a few bands...brought their practices with them and making it sound like all bands are extensions of cb...... Plus‚ there are indeed more Hams than even I thought before‚ who are....well‚ I'll just say they don't have 10-4 numbers and no Saddle Slapper numbers nor other such starnge stuff. ...so they have adopted a sort of 'closed door ' policy...which I may a s well call RADIO APARTHIED. hit key £i1 This is where they use a band/ freq/ mode that is not as popular to the ones they care not to qso. 10 mtrs during the times of least DX‚ is when/where they are likly to be. I'm 'in' with such a group I now discover‚ altho they don't right out and say what I just said‚ but its clear thats the case. The 2nd thing‚ is where‚ if some 'undesirable' DOES stunble upon the freq‚ any qsoing that occurs is run short n sweet and excuses to have to leave are come up with....leaving the incomer alone after a few minutes. ---hit key £i1 This has to be done tactly‚ so to look for real‚ and not 'the brush off' so as to not accidently build a monster‚ who'll make qrm or do stuff thats borderline of qrm. The objective is simply to be not bothered by these extra people‚ not also end up with 20 dozen others on the freq and so lose it to them...need have to keep spinning VFO and only qso randomly there after. The other things done‚ are to run as low a power as possible‚ and still e heard by just those in the group. On 2 mtrs‚ this is quite easy to do sence‚ signals there ( and on 220 440) tend to fizzle out fast‚ on simplex. ( IE non-repater freqs)...but‚ it's more likly an 'undesirable' will be near by enough to trip up the works... as the first rig anyone NOW gets is mostly 2 mtrs FM. hit key £i1 Its possible to do‚ and some do this‚ where they are part of more than 1 such group‚ and even selectivly show up on the 'open air' ( but NOT on the freqs they use as 'closed' ....don't want to attract people there). To not befoul the others ‚ the freqs are kept separate and the groups small‚ and at time they change freqs to not set a pattern. Also‚ use of CW ( a mode that the least of the undesirables can use beyond some RST report-bye-bye qso) at high speeds is done. hit key £i1 The primary objective is only to not be crawled all over by others who 1/2 can't master getting beyond pushing a mic button...or are just not into what the qso is about...who'd bog qso down. Its NOT a hate thing...altho SOME do use it for that...and thats their privelege....9just leave 'em be and set up another freq to use)...and such groups get to be huge it seems‚ who do that sort of thing. hit key £i1 So. what I propose to do...with the 4 -5 guys ( some are here) is to set up in such a way to be able to do that too‚ and so not end up being run off by the 'radio-masses' N1KGY and I ‚ while on 80 & 40 mtrs proved to our selves that it can be done ( use CW x slow‚ and use band when least amount others are on). N1NKM and KA1ZMF and I‚ during a period I might call‚ Radio-Dark-Ages‚ did a thing we called micro-net: Run extremly low power ( like 10-25 mw) and qso LOS only‚ so to not be hearable too distantly/easily. N1OKM and N1??? ( someday to be) and I may attempt somthing similar...once a rig thats immune to IMD and stuff...not cost $ 2895 zillion bucks and not turn their yard into a Nasa Deep Space 9 comunicom center.... uis found. hit key £i1 oops I goofed!.... So to start with‚ 28390 AND 28444 are the 'open air' freqs. A proposed 'low key' / 'low profile' freq might be up around 28495kc. Don't wanna use 28305...28300.5 as thers an unsavoury bunch that occasionaly gets there‚ and they are EXACTLY the kind of people we just want NO part of. For cw‚ 28151.5 is 'ok' ... but is used by a tiny 'closed' group (semi closed) so‚ some ohter freq may be good...like the unpopular-no-one-thinks-to-check-it 28299--28298kc section. hit key £i1 ( All the almsot 4.5 yeras I been at this‚ I've never heard anyone on those 2 freqs!!!! I'd cq there for HOURS and never got anyone!!!!! so‚ its 1/2 safe to assume‚ that CW there would go un-molested) OK....sorry for such a huge post‚ but I wanted to pass this info along‚ about minor cahnges that ought to help us retain ability to qso on the air ways. In meantime‚ 28390--28444 for ssb and part-time 28200 for cw‚ is whwere a good meet-up spot is. We can always sneak off to some prearranged freq...1st sign as if QRT but then dial over and call the station back!!!!! 28495 can be...for now.....that freq. (ssb OR cw) KA1UNW W1ORS nite 7 WyreBall 5/28/94 F'lar-Mnenenth's Rider 12:14 am N1JJT cmae n got me ( and N1 KGY ) and we went to W1ORS club‚ Stratford. There‚ I lit up the 6AG7 on 3710kc‚ on the 250ft ant‚ and immediatly caught a qso. N1RIP of Prov. RI‚ heard the 1/2 watt signal....before the 80-rush that occurs about dusk. I used xtals I borrowed from N1KGY. 2 other Hams may be building similar rigs! I gave palns out to 2. Met K1TEY...who has growed a fluffy beard‚ gotton chubbier‚ and I 1/2 expect he will show up on '390 after midnites.... SO.....a radio watch for him is to start. Tested power at 140 vdc‚ was 900-1200 milli-watts‚ and can operate right up to 14mc! How ever the actual use will be for 80-40‚ and a 12vdc input // 250/125vdc out put portable supply will go with it. With 250vdc on plate ( and 125 on screen) this rig should do more than 1 watt. Rig is built within a 5 " mini box‚ powersupply will be in 2nd box‚ RECEIVER ( yes!) will go in a 3rd box and TR switch will go in a 2.5" box. Some of the parts that went in will go in‚ are ones from Frances Electronix. ============ Speaking of that‚ I have made palns for 6 various TX and RX ckts using parts from France's...2 being Receivers of the regen type that use tubes amde before 1940's ...one being battery powered. .. .. .. The only question is where the antennas for these rigs will be planted...they're not S M A L L !! 73 de N1KGY ------ 565-569 -----'Where'7 WyreBall 6/14/94 NCC1701x Radio Room 8:12 pm 40 will fit as a dipole‚ semi cross angle in the yard...or straight across. To run 80 or 160‚ the only simple and sure way is to treat coax as a random wire...then insert a load-coil and 'tuner'...then coax back to rig. The 10 mtr vert will 'run alone' and not be reused as I been doing....as it works poorly for qrp stuff. The !0 mtr mast can serve as one support for the dipole ( which woill also have 10 mtr dipole as well‚ and maybe 15 mtrs if 7mc x 3 won't work) and then 1 more mast‚ out to left side of yard‚ will support other end. THAT is the paln I'm aming at. Then we'd need a switch box or relay box and safty lite to transfer ant from you to me‚ as needed. That should work. room for RF 43 Dreis 6/15/94 field day bound 11:17 pm sounds like that will work‚ wyre. OR I can go down and load up the train tracks for 160 meters..... N1KGY Jupitor antenna 7 WyreBall 7/5/94 A.S.Hindenburg- Radio Room 2:16 am Mainly due to time and $$$ constraints ‚ the ant will be a folded dipole 53 ft long‚ fed by balun and coax. Its resonant freq will be 8.3 mc but we'll arrange to make it tune higher via shorting connections. This will go to the R-390 A receiver or to whatever radio I can get to work on that section of band. A VCR 's VIDIO output will be connected to the IF out put of R390A so to get an RF sample 'raw' on tape (allow play back into 455kc! ) In any event its expected that we will hear a woosh noise during the hit‚ and so a tape is to be made of it. The AUDIO sound track will be used to record WWV for time ID . This will be turned in to the people listed in QST in that artical.
